Waukee High School Announces Girls Basketball Coach
Waukee High School has announced that Dani Franklin will be the next head coach for the girls.
Dani, a graduate of Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa before attending Valparaiso University where she is the second all-time leading scorer in school history. She then became a graduate assistant at Mercer leading them to the NCAA tournament before returning to her alma mater to become an assistant coach for two seasons.
Dani always knew she wanted to come back home to the state of Iowa. She believes Waukee is the best fit to come back home and continue coaching.
“Waukee is an incredible place. There is a strong tradition of success and I am excited to get to work with such incredible student-athletes and people everyday,” Coach Franklin said. “Basketball is my passion and to be able to support the next generation has always been a goal of mine.”
Dani knows that making sure the student-athletes are working hard both on the court and in the classroom.
“From the ground up, our staff will not only be teaching basketball skills and instilling hard work, but also be giving our student-athletes the tools to reach their goals in and outside of athletics. There will be a tremendous focus on communication and growing together.”
She hopes to keep the outstanding legacy Waukee basketball has as she enters this new role.
“You can expect that our staff and players will always give 110% in everything we do. We are going to do things the Warrior Way – we not only will build great basketball players, but also great people,” Dani said. “We will immediately be building a strong, competitive, and exciting atmosphere for our outstanding athletes!”
Franklin steps into the role as head coach after Chris Guess heads to Northwest High School after leading the program for the past 18 seasons.
