Mission Accomplished! – Waukee Claims Class 5A State Title

Championship Game – Waukee 71, Johnston 43

State Champs! Waukee knocked off Johnston 71-43 in Friday’s Class 5A State Championship. The Warriors avenged last year’s title game in impressive fashion. Katie Dinnebier led the Warriors with 29 points.  Reagan Bartholomew and Megan Earney were also in double figures for Waukee. The Warriors raced out to a 42-29 lead at halftime, shooting 82% from the field in the opening 16 minutes. Waukee ends their incredible season with a 13-1 record and will say goodbye to one of best senior classes in school history. Katie Dinnebier was named the Class 5A All-Tournament Team Captain. Peyton Kelderman also joined her on the elite team. This is the second state title in Waukee High School history.


Semifinal Round – Waukee 50, Ankeny Centennial 29

Waukee is heading back to the Class 5A Championship. The Warriors knocked off Ankeny Centennial in Thursday’s semifinal game 50 – 29. Katie Dinnebier paced Waukee with 20 points. Lindsey Kelderman added nine, Peyton Kelderman and Megan Earney poured in seven, Reagan Bartholomew added six. The Warriors bolted out to a quick first quarter lead and went into the halftime break with a 28-18 advantage. Click here to watch a replay of the game. Waukee advances to play Johnston in Friday’s Class 5A Championship Game. It’s scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff at Wells Fargo Arena. The Class 5A tournament bracket can be found here. Quarterfinal Round – Waukee 60, Dowling 37

The Waukee Girls Basketball team defeated Dowling Catholic 60-37 in the state quarterfinals on Monday morning. Click here to watch the game. The 11-1 Warriors will now play in Thursday’s state semifinals at 10:00. They will take on Ankeny Centennial in the semifinal round. Katie Dinnebier scored 23 points to pace the Warriors against Dowling. She also grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists. Peyton Kelderman added 16. Click here for the box score. The Warriors and Ankeny Centennial played once in the regular season, a 56-46 Waukee win on February 2.

Waukee Advances to Class 5A State Tournament

The Waukee Girls Basketball team is heading back to the Class 5A State Tournament. The Warriors knocked off Ankeny in Tuesday’s Region 1 Championship game. Click here for the box score from Waukee’s win.

The win sends Waukee to next week’s Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Tournament. The Warriors (10-1) are the top seed in the Class 5A bracket and will take on 8-seed Dowling Catholic (11-6) in the quarterfinal round Monday, March 1 at 9:00 a.m. The two teams played once during the regular season, a 75-50 Waukee victory on January 4. This is Waukee’s 8th consecutive trip to the state tournament.
