Get to Know Band Instructor Jeff Patterson

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Walkerton, Indiana. A small town in Northern Indiana near South Bend.

Where did you attend school?

I graduated from John Glenn High School in 1987, Indiana State University in 1991, and achieved my Masters Degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago in 1999.

What got you interested in music?

I was always interested in music, but I had a very influential band director in high school that cemented my future path.

What is your music background?

My principal instrument is the saxophone, but also play other things including Highland Bagpipes.

What is the most rewarding thing about your job?

Seeing young people turn into responsible contributing members of society.

Who does your family consist of?

I am married to my wife, Eve. We have 3 Boston Terriers: Bogie, Winston, and Archie

What do you like to do outside of instructing?

Spending time with my wife at our home in Florida.  

What is your favorite food and restaurant?

Most Italian food is good for me… favorite restaurant is Christophers in Beaverdale.

Favorite movie?

I’m a bit of a Star Wars nerd, so they win my heart for movies.  

Favorite musical band or artist?

I like so many different genres and artists, I am not sure I can single one out. I enjoy everything from the Beach Boys, to Billie Eilish to Mahler.

If you could have dinner with one famous person, who would it be and why?

Leonard Bernstein. I think he was an absolutely fascinating person and would be fun to dine with. I am sure it would be quite memorable.
