Eight Warriors Sign Early
Eight Waukee senior athletes signed letters of intent on Wednesday, November 13, the first day of the early signing period.
Sullivan Bolles will play soccer next year at Truman State University. The 3-year varsity letter-winner has been a part of back to back state championships for the Waukee Boys Soccer Team starting 12 games a year ago. He was fifth on the team in goals scored.
Ellie Hemesath signed to play volleyball at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. The three-year letter-winner was a middle hitter on this year’s state-qualifying team. She finished the season with 191 kills. She was also a two-year letter winner in track.
Cameron Linder will swim for the Gophers at the University of Minnesota next year. Linder could end his career as the most decorated male swimmer in school history. He already has six podium finishes as an individual including the 200 IM state championship a year ago. He has also been a key part of Waukee’s relay successes at the state meet the past three years.
Kate Nelson will join two siblings as scholarship athletes graduating from Waukee. Kate will play volleyball at South Dakota State University. A three-year starter, Nelson was second on the team with 319 kills this year as an outside hitter. She also had 54 service aces.
Jackson Payne has committed to the Iowa Hawkeye Baseball Team as a pitcher. Payne was 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA as a junior. He had 70 strikeouts in just 50 innings pitched a year ago. Jackson has also been a state place winner in track as a hurdler and has lettered in basketball.
Sydney Sharpe has signed to play soccer at Concordia University in St. Paul. Sharpe is a transfer from West Des Moines Valley where she started 10 games as a midfielder a year ago. She will join a Warrior team that was state runner up last year.
Isabelle Schaffer will continue her track and cross country career as a Panther at the University of Northern Iowa. Isabelle will be a four-year letter-winner in both sports for Waukee. She has been a member of four top-six finishing cross country teams and three state championship track teams. She has been an individual state qualifier in the 1500 and 3000 in track.
Sydney Schaffer will join her sister at the University of Northern Iowa as a scholarship athlete. Sydney has placed in the top six at the state track meet in the 3000, 1500 and 800 meters. She is also a Drake Relays champion in the 4×800 and earned all-state recognition in cross country.
